Buddah Hands & Key Limes

I live close to the New Sagaya City Market in Mid-Town Anchorage. I remember when it was a little store on Spenard. I still have the teapot I bought there way back when. Now there are two wonderful full-fledged markets. I figure if I'm going to live in the city I might as well take advantage of all the good things a city offers. (Went to a movie theater the other night and saw the new True Grit.

It was a fantastic remake of the old movie. If you get a chance Go See It!)
Now Buddah Hands are a fruit I'd never seen. I googled them and found out they are edible and how to eat them. They cook up great with fish, chicken and vegetables. They make great tea, marmalades and liqueurs. Best of all they make great natural air fresheners! After reading about them now I want to buy one. They were a little freaky to me when I saw them but being a lemon freak now I have to my hands on a Buddah Hand.
The key limes surprised me. I did not realize they were so small until now. Not much more to say about them except they took a nice bright picture. Oh, and Key Lime pie is good!

Best Buns In Anchorage

Hamburger buns that is. Made fresh daily at the Long Branch Saloon. I remember the long running commercials that bragged about the best buns in town. And they were not kidding. Light and airy they hold up to the cheeseburger well. Which was, by far, the best cheeseburger I've ate in Anchorage, so far.

After I ordered mine with fries the customer next to me ordered theirs with a salad. Even though the hand cut fries were crisp and hot the salad looked and smelled good with fresh sliced cucumbers and tomatoes. Next time I'm ordering a salad with mine and there will be a next time.

The Long Branch Saloon sits just off of Abbott Road. Next time your on that side of town and hungry stop in. The cheeseburger, glass of Alaskan Amber and a generous tip came to $20.00.

Bingo Gut Bomb

South Side Bingo hall houses Geno & Sal's New York Grill. I opted for the $9.50 Rico's burger tonight while playing the late night session.
I'll swim it off tomorrow.

Here's a recent ADN story:

Earthquake Park getting dark

Beautiful sunset in the Anchorage bowl tonight. Took the short drive to Earthquake Park to enjoy the view, take pictures and see if my laptop and cell phone worked out there. While watching the sun go down I played scrabble, listened to Radio Paradise and got to talk to my best friend on the horn at the same time. Sunset at 5:30 and didn't linger on too long after that.

Joined The Anchorage YMCA

Checked out the saltwater lap pool Monday night. Paid $8 for a day pass before deciding to join today when my unenjoyment check hit the bank. $45 to join and a monthly fee of $45.
I'm not an underwater swimmer. I skim across the water neck up. So far I have not been splashed or dunked. No saltwater has gotton in my eyes...yet.
That wooden box next to the pool is a bunya.

Whoof Arted

The busts are random bronze statues.
Whoof Arted tells what Anchorage has been like lately.
I haven't left the house except for essentials. Beer, pot and cigs.
