Larry Reynolds has refurbished the 1984 Westwind II jet he bought from the state of Alaska. Reynolds, who plans on chartering the jet to big-game hunters flying around the world, has replaced one of the engines, brakes, upgraded the electrical system and added full Internet and printing capabilities.

>>Edited to add that the video is of when the state of Alaska owned the jet.

If you don't make your own soap buy it from Me and Nellie Soap Company Handmade Herbal Soaps.
This is good soap.
Doesn't leave a ring around the tub.

Happy 16th Birthday Dale!!

My little buddy, whom I've known since before he was born, turned BIG 16 today. I got him what he wanted, since you only turn 16 once, and that was this NorthFace snowmachine backpack. Last year I got him that fold up shovel sticking out of it.
Dale's birthday kicks off my favorite time of year.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DALE!!!

Yellow Cab

Valdez is blessed with only one cab company which is called Valdez Yellow Cab. None of the cabs are yellow any more. In the winter they drive a big 4wd crew cab. Color unknown.

End Alaska Daylight Savings TIme

Letter to the Editor in March 6 Anchorage Daily News

Insanity of daylight-saving time in Alaska must come to an end

Darlene Dubay's Compass piece about February in Alaska mentioned the natural gain of daylight that she notices ("Julia, you just don't appreciate the wonders of February," Feb. 26). I also appreciate the gentle nudge to my circadian rhythm in late winter and early spring as we gain several minutes of daylight each day.

However, in Juneau, a few powerful legislators are not into a gentle nudging of anything, including your gradual adjustment to hours of daylight and darkness. Again, at 2 a.m. on Sunday, they will demand that you change your clock by one hour so that we, who live in the "land of the midnight sun," can participate in the insanity of daylight-saving time.

Since 1999 legislation to end the use of DST has been defeated by individual committee chairmen on four occasions. The last two "actors" to kill repeal legislation were Sen. Con Bunde (refused to hold a single hearing on SB 120, 2005-2006) and Rep. Kevin Meyer (canceled hearing on HB 176).

In 2006, several of us Alaskans pursued an initiative petition. Thousands of Alaskans did sign the initiative petition. However, with only volunteer help and limited funding, we could not participate effectively in the current initiative process.

More about this issue, including the legislative history, is available at our Web site. You can Google "End Alaska Daylight Saving Time."

Alaska Halibut House

A good place to go eat in Valdez is MacMurrays' Alaska Halibut House. They are open all winter when a lot of the places close down. We went there today for lunch. I reccommend the halibut sandwich with fries. Their tartar sauce is made in the house and is great. They make it like I do with just a tad bit of horseradish. I like to dip my fries in tartar sauce. I got turned onto that when I lived in Washington State. Been hooked ever since. My friend got the butterfly deep battered prawns and according to her "the best milkshake in town". Not only that its the only place to get a milkshake in Valdez in March.

Ugly Rockfish

http://static.flickr.com/29/63386202_6077121627.jpg

Last night I was playing Scrabble online with a gal from British Columbia. We got to chatting about my favorite subject and got along great. We were even steven playing the games and her, being only an hour ahead of Alaska time, was a lot of fun. We talked fish recipes, fish wars and about all the fish in the sea.
When she asked me if I wanted to see an ugly rockfish I said yes. Thankyou ANGIE!
