Last Snow Day of Feb!

A foot fell in places. I watched it snow all day. First good snowfall I've seen since I left Valdez. It stopped snowing a couple of hours before I had to do an LA turn-around. The highway was clear of accumalated snow by then and traffic wisely slowed when numerous new vehicles were visible upside down in the ditch.

Deck Shot

I am loving these long lingering sunsets. And they are just getting longer every night. The view from here is incredible. If I didn't have to get supplies or a job I'd never leave the driveway.

Home on the Lake

Got everything moved out of my room in Anchorage. Stopped by my storage unit and picked up my desktop. Low and behold there is a desk in my new room with a slide out keyboard tray. Cleaned my bathroom and made my bed. Thats Jefferson jumping on it. He's the small dog. Thatcher is bigger with the same coloring. Yes, she's named after Margaret and Jefferson after Thomas. Jefferson took to me right away. Thatcher is acting like her namesake. Its going to take a bit for her to warm up to me. Starting to feel at home and getting settled in. Overcast day with snow flurries and the wind is blowing off the lake. Nice and toasty inside though. I think I'm really gonna like my new digs.

Moving Again

Found a real cool place to live on a lake in Wasilla. Good deal, too. Free rent! Well, I have to keep the place clean, housesit and take care of the dogs when the owners away. I have the whole downstairs otherwise. Right on Lake Lucille!

The place has a hot tub, sauna and a greenhouse. Found it on Craigslist. Went through extensive interviews this past week and landed it tonight. Now I'll be looking for a real job in Wasilla.
Can't you see my paddleboat docked there this summer?

Valley of the Horses

Drove out to the Matanuska Valley today for a job interview. With the nice 31 degree weather I saw lots of horseback riders. These two girls were more than happy to have their picture taken. They told me the breed and not beingBold a horsewoman all I can remember is part appaloosa and part ? Both were different part. The horses were perfect sizes for these young riders. Not too much bigger than them.

The Valley of the Horses is my favorite book from Jean Auel's THE EARTH'S CHILDREN SERIES.

Best Buns In Anchorage

Hamburger buns that is. Made fresh daily at the Long Branch Saloon. I remember the long running commercials that bragged about the best buns in town. And they were not kidding. Light and airy they hold up to the cheeseburger well. Which was, by far, the best cheeseburger I've ate in Anchorage, so far.

After I ordered mine with fries the customer next to me ordered theirs with a salad. Even though the hand cut fries were crisp and hot the salad looked and smelled good with fresh sliced cucumbers and tomatoes. Next time I'm ordering a salad with mine and there will be a next time.

The Long Branch Saloon sits just off of Abbott Road. Next time your on that side of town and hungry stop in. The cheeseburger, glass of Alaskan Amber and a generous tip came to $20.00.

Bingo Gut Bomb

South Side Bingo hall houses Geno & Sal's New York Grill. I opted for the $9.50 Rico's burger tonight while playing the late night session.
I'll swim it off tomorrow.

Earthquake Park getting dark

Beautiful sunset in the Anchorage bowl tonight. Took the short drive to Earthquake Park to enjoy the view, take pictures and see if my laptop and cell phone worked out there. While watching the sun go down I played scrabble, listened to Radio Paradise and got to talk to my best friend on the horn at the same time. Sunset at 5:30 and didn't linger on too long after that.

Carmex Anyone?

A story ran today in the Fairbanks News-Miner (Palin rails against 'anonymous, pathetic bloggers') where Governor Palin says she's addicted to Carmex.

She's a real Alaskan and so am I. My name is FishTaxi and I'm addicted to Carmex. I'm old school and prefer the pot. In its original pure state.
