Qiviut Hand Knits

Beautiful and warm hand knit scarves, hats and headbands for sale at the Musk Ox farm in Palmer. Very plush and very expensive. I tried the headband on and loved how it looked and felt. Out of my price range at $125 though. I could afford the $7.00 for the tour to get up close and personal with the musk ox but it was raining and nobody on the ride wanted to go so I opted for shooting a pic through the fence. You can kind of see them lying down.

Can't Complain
Spent the day raking the yard in my bikini listening to Radio Paradise.com. Tomorrow I will mow the HUGE backyard wearing steel-toed boots too. Taking advantage of this beautiful weather while unemployed.
My heart goes out to the victims and families in the recent tornado mayhem. May your weather get better too!

Treehouse in Progress
Some neighborhood kids are building a treehouse this summer. I drive by it every day and have been watching them build it up. Today they started painting it. I'll post more pics when they finish and maybe they will let me take a peek inside!

Home of the Moose
Back to swimming in the Palmer High School pool. Since I am now a senior citizen (55 in Palmer and Wasilla) I get a discount. $35 instead of $45 for a 10 swim punch card. One night a week I do open swim instead of laps and swim with my niece and her 2 boys. 3 years old and 4 months. Its never too early to learn how to swim and enjoy the water. They love it and so do I.

A Little Bit of Sunshine
Yakutat was a "no go" so I got my old room back in Palmer. I'm looking for work locally and looking forward to summer in the valley. These tulips popped open today after a little bit of sunshine.

Ground House
There is this house in Palmer on Alaska Street. I asked around and all I could find out is its been there a long time. My guess is they built the basement first and never finished building up.

"Buy Pie"
Across from the Alaska State Fairgrounds outside of Palmer on the Glenn Hwy sits the Noisy Goose Cafe. I've passed by here many times and finally today stopped in to have a burger. I wasn't dissappointed. The burger was great and the beer-battered fries complimented the jalapeno burger well. I like dipping my fries in a side of tartar sauce. The decor is Alaskana with friendly waitresses. One said "no pictures allowed" as I was snapping pictures then laughingly said she was joking. My only regret was after my delicious burger and fries I had no room for pie. I will have to go back another time for a sampling of their homemade pies and desserts. Just like the bear in window says "Buy Pie".

Goodbye Snow, Hello High Gas Prices
Two trips to Palmer on this beautiful spring like day. No wind! It was time to remove the piles of snow in the old Carrs/Safeway parking lot. A new store opened across the street.

Palmer
Every so often I'll get a ride to Palmer which connects to Wasilla now that the valley has grown so much.
Its a farm town with its own
"Major League Baseball" field.

Permafrost Alaska Vodka

Permafrost, The Alaskan Vodka
Alaska's first distillery is set to soon release their first vodka, Permafrost. Toby Foster, a former commercial pilot and CEO of the Glacier Creek Distillery is hoping that the Alaska's recent media attention because of Gov. Sarah Palin will help drum up attention for the vodka. Permafrost is made from Alaskan potatoes grown in the Matanuska Valley and Alaskan glacier water. The vodka will be priced at about $50 a bottle to wholesale distributors. Martini Groove reports that the distillery's 750-milliliter bottles are imported from Italy and made of a heavy glass. Because they cost a hefty $6 a bottle, the company is considering offering a return deposit. Glacier Creek Distillery is also green, the ethanol from the distilling process will fuel generators that run the plant and the potato leavings from the vodka processing will be composted.
Alaska’s first and only distillery, Glacier Creek Distillery is proud to announce “Permafrost Alaskan Vodka”.
When the world's most pristine ice drips drop by drop into Glacier Creek and rushes toward the world's most fertile land of glacier dust and virgin soil, planted with hearty potatoes kissed by the midnight sun, one can't help but want to capture the essence of the two in a premier vodka unlike any seen before. That is exactly what has been accomplished by a small local Alaskan team of vodka “artisans” at Glacier Creek Distillery in Palmer, Alaska.
To say that Permafrost Vodka is natural is to understate the purity of the glacier water and heritage seed potates, ingredients to be found in this Arctic concoction. One must also appreciate the small meticulously engineered distillery as it produces superior spirits one pure drop at a time under the watchful eye of CEO and distiller Toby Foster. As Toby Foster mentions that, “You can only ensure quality by taking extra steps during the purity control process.” That's just what has been achieved with Permafrost's trademarked distillery process that includes triple distilling and five times charcoal filtering. This adds up to 508 hours of tedious work from washing the first potato to popping the cork in a finished bottle of hand-crafted Permafrost Vodka.
Chiseled from this breathtaking winter land, a smooth, warm elixir of the finest quality has been crafted. One that connoisseurs of the most discriminating palates shall embrace. However, we have it on good authority from our buddies that it goes down “just all right” after a good hard day of slaying fish or high marking a few mountain sides. So finish picking crabs, shucking clams, driving those ice roads, or flying the bush skies, and stop to enjoy a sip of Permafrost Vodka, your distinctly Alaskan Spirit!
Glacier Creek Distillery
At $50 a pop it better be good. Should I open it?
