Fishing Dock is GONE

You can go back to my old post One of THOSE Days to see what the dock used to look like. Took these pictures today. The Valdez City Dock is newly named The JOHN THOMAS KELSEY MUNICIPAL DOCK designated for cruise ship mooring! It was a bad rumor this past summer and I didn't believe it would really happen. Demolishing an easy access public fishing dock in favor of cruise ships in Valdez Harbor hurts my head. What was the city thinking?

That is sad, not many towns have such accessible fishing spots. I am sure those people visiting from the cruse ships would enjoy the area also. I agree...what were they thinking?

I can't believe how blue it is there, even in the fall, I miss the real ocean!

I guess we'll have to take a cruise to Valdez. Jimmy

Wow, that seemed to be a popular spot with locals (from what I gather from past pictures you've posted). Homer's deep water dock is mostly restricted, I wonder if they'll restrict yours too?

Bummer.

Can't wait to see if Valdez ends up looking like Juneau or McKinley Village... seems the big tour operators prefer a prettier, Disneyland version of Alaskan towns. Sustainable tourism means we must all sacrifice our public and private access to our own towns and parks, it's for the common good of the Alaskan-Dutch Empire.

All hail Queen Beatrix!
