Deer Heart. wish you were here...

The deer hunters returned safe & sound from Prince William Sound last night with 28 deer on board the Double Trouble. With 6 guys and the limit being 5 each they did very well. (My hunter got his 5.)

This pic on the right is from a few years ago but the scene around here will be basically the same. For the next few days we will be skinning, butchering and grinding. The FishTaxi's freezer will be full of neatly wrapped & labeled venison backstrap, steaks, roasts, burger and sausage. And heart.

Hi Kathy,
Ginna, here, I forgot my log in name, LOL, you can see how much I blog.
Michelle drove home from Church last night and a deer ran out in front of her in 2 different places. Dennis was in the back seat, LOL he had to have a couple cigarettes on the way home. We hadn't seen one at night in a couple weeks. You'd think we were in Alaska instead of NC. One night we saw a group of about 6 cross the road in front of us. One morning we were going to school, and one was in the road on the interstate, Michelle said "What a waste."
Dennis doesn't hunt but we have deer in the freezer. Someone gave him a whole one about 2 months ago. Another friend of his was here this week and wanted to know if we wanted another one.
I just wish I could get the idea of eatting bambi out of my head. I eat chicken, and little chicks are cute. No problem here eating eggs.

I hope you are having a good week. Sorry I hadn't got around to e-mailing you. I talk here too.

mona- hope it didn't gross you out too much. We use rifles if that is what you wanted to know. Sitka blacktail deer were planted in PWS back in the 50's for hunting. They've flourished even with the hunting. Its amazing that they swim from island to island.

THe first time I went deerhunting I was a little shellshocked but got over it. Venison and moose are great eating. We rarely eat beef.

Ginna- moose get hit on the highway here almost every day somewhere in the state. Its sad for the moose and scary for drivers. More open hunting seasons would help. Getting hit by a car or a train is senseless and very little meat salvageable.

I cook venison & moose cuts just like I would beef cuts. Very tasty!
