Ancient Ruins

The relic Harborview Mental Health Facility in Valdez is no longer standing. At one time employing 120+ residents and home to the states mentally challenged. The structure, built to sustain a massive earthquake (post 1964), was totally demolished this summer. After Harborview officially closed and the residents were sent to group homes the institution sat dormant for years. It did house the boiler that heated the adjacent hospital until the new hospital was completed. The massive Demolition of Harborview Hospital contract was awarded to Coldfoot Enviromental Services who also demolished Nautilus Seafoods on the city dock and the Black Gold Recreation Hall in Valdez. Three eyesores gone.
It was fun to watch and take pictures of the progress. Valdez does look better. Thank-you Coldfoot!
